Dr Gavin Tunnard FRCEM

Consultant in Emergency Medicine, Pre-hospital and Retrieval Medicine

I am in full time, active clinical practice, as a substantive Consultant in Emergency Medicine in NHS Grampian, Scotland.  I also practice as a Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Consultant for the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service, part of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Prior to my current post I was a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and a Major Trauma Consultant at Brighton and Sussex Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

I am an examiner for the Royal College of Emergency Medicine.  I am also a regular faculty member on Advanced Trauma Life Support courses nationally, as well as teaching nationally on level one ultrasound courses.  I have a role in national undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and hold the title of an honorary clinical senior lecturer with the University of Aberdeen Medical School

After graduation from medical school in 2006, I completed my foundation rotation in 2008, before commencing my training in Emergency Medicine in both the UK and Australia.  I gained my Fellowship to the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (FRCEM) in 2015 and have been practicing as a consultant since then, on a full-time basis.

I have completed formal training in the role of a medical expert witness and am fully compliant with the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges expert witness guidance, maintaining regular CPD in this area.

My expanding practice currently sees me completing around 70 personal injury reports and 8-10 medical negligence cases per year across the UK and Ireland with an average turnaround time of 10 working days.
