Dr Gavin Tunnard FRCEM

Consultant in Emergency Medicine, Pre-hospital and Retrieval Medicine

Dr Tunnard is in full time, active clinical practice, as a substantive Consultant in Emergency Medicine in NHS Grampian, Scotland.  He also practices as a Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Consultant for the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service, part of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

 

Prior to his current post he was a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and a Major Trauma Consultant at Brighton and Sussex Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

 

He is an examiner for the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and is also a regular faculty member on Advanced Trauma Life Support courses nationally.  Dr Tunnard holds a role in national undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and is an honorary clinical senior lecturer with the University of Aberdeen Medical School.

 

After graduation from medical school in 2006, he completed his foundation rotation in 2008, before commencing training in Emergency Medicine in both the UK and Australia.  Gavin gained his Fellowship to the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (FRCEM) in 2015 and has been practicing as a consultant since then, on a full-time basis.

 

Dr Tunnard has completed formal training in the role of a medical expert witness and is fully compliant with the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges expert witness guidance, maintaining regular CPD in this area.  He is also an independent GMC expert witness in Emergency Medicine, providing expert opinion on fitness to practice hearings.

 

His practice currently sees him completing around 100 personal injury reports and 8-10 medical negligence cases per year across the UK and Ireland and he is experienced in applying the different negligence tests in each nation.  Reports have an average turnaround time of 10 working days.
